Relaxing probably won’t kill me, it just feels that way.  

 

I find it incredibly challenging to give myself permission to take time off from work and relax.  As a business owner, I am constantly working. Or thinking about work. Or feeling guilty for not working when I’m doing anything that isn’t work.

5 steps to accomplish more by being more realistic about your time

I’m getting excited about the New Year because I love to plan!  But I can get a little out of touch with reality fairly quickly.  For instance, I will not be cooking healthy and awesome meals daily because that’s insane and I don’t have 5 extra hours every day.  Instead, I meal prep on Sundays to make sure I’m able to focus on eating healthy all week long - but while still being realistic about my time.

3 Mistakes You Are Making When Setting Your New Year’s Goals (and how to fix them)

I’m getting ready for the New Year, which of course means - goal setting!  I love setting goals. I like dreaming about what might be in the future, and then figuring out how to get there. 

 

About 10 years ago I made the most insane New Year’s resolutions list ever.  It had 72 things on it. It included awesome ideas like: ride in a hot air balloon, take a ballet class, learn Italian, learn Spanish, learn to cook, go to the gym everyday, and learn how to paint.  It’s great to have dreams, but none of these were going to happen because I never set actual goals to support them. My favorite: I will go to the gym everyday. LOL. I didn’t even belong to a gym.  How was it going to happen? Was I going to use magic? When was I going to fit in going to the gym in between learning two languages and going to ballet classes?

How do you start to narrow down your priorities for the new year?  You can start by exploring the possibilities and dreaming big for 2020 by figuring out what supports you being your best self both personally and professionally.

 

Your best self

The concept of ‘your best self,’ gets tossed around as if you should immediately know who she is and how to find her.  How should I know what my best self is like? What does that even mean? Does she like cheese? I wonder if she has any chocolate? 

But, when I really think about it, my best self is obvious. She is a magical version of me with all of my best traits.  She is driven without bulldozering over everything in front of her. She is passionate without yelling (mostly). She is patient and kind.  She is clear and focused. She is happy and laughs throughout the day. She feels great physically, emotionally, and mentally. Healthy Hangover Hacks for the Holidays

One of my favorite things about being a health and wellness expert is that I know a bunch of remedies for when I want to do really stupid things.  For instance, if I were to eat an entire block of cheddar cheese, I have some herbal remedies that makes it possible for me to do this without several days worth of unfortunate consequences.  While I can’t make stupid choices for my body all the time (although, I love to try!), I can use my knowledge to help me get away with some things.

The holidays are fast approaching - and by fast I mean that it snowed on Halloween and sent my neighbors into a tailspin that resulted in Christmas lights the very next day.  Also, the cold weather on Halloween means that no candy left my house. It’s been a rough couple of weeks. Candy. Feeling this sense like the holidays are rushing towards me like an unstoppable train.  More Candy. 

Here’s the thing - I still want to get work done during the holidays.  I love my job. I want to be doing it most of the time. The holiday season offers some great distractions and moments that I truly value, but I mostly have visions of sugar plum fairies who help me improve my website SEO or spending time getting to help clients strategize for an awesome 2020.

Get rid of your secret to-do list!

Yes, I know about your secret to do list.  You make your regular ‘to do’ list for the day, the one that you could probably accomplish - if you were perfect all day long.  Then you make a secret ‘to do’ list- this is the one you think you should also be able to get done.

Why do we do this?  Yes, I know you're ambitious.  I am too!  But if I’m going to be successful, and less stressed, then I also need to be realistic.  My secret to-do list is getting in my way.  Do you get to the end of you day and feel like you didn't get anything done?  Maybe your secret to do list is why - because you did get lots of stuff done, just not the unrealistic stuff that there was never going to be time for anyway.
