#1: Creating Your Sustainable Health Support Squad

Welcome to the very first episode of The Healthy, Happy, and mostly Sane Entrepreneur Podcast. 

I created this podcast because I don't think that you have to sacrifice your health and sanity to be successful at doing what you love - it's really that simple. 

Each week I offer tons of fast, easy, do-able action steps to get you started right now towards a healthier you.  


What you’ll learn in this episode:

  1. That you can be a healthy, happy, and mostly sane entrepreneur WHO IS ALSO SUCCESSFUL.
  2. How to create a team to support your health and wellness (and sanity) so that you can show up as your best self as much as possible (but mostly so you can just get more work done).
  3. Small achievable action steps you can take to improve your health this week.


Create Your Sustainable Health Support Squad:

Friends and Family - Yup, that's right. Your friends and family not only want you to be happy and healthy, they also want you to be successful!

Action Steps:

1. Reach out to 1-3 friends or family who you know would love to support you.  Ask for what would help you. Maybe it’s a weekly meeting that’s on your schedule to make sure you are staying connected.  Maybe it’s a weekly walk or yoga class with a friend that makes sure you get out of the house. Maybe it’s just asking, would it be ok if I called you sometimes when I’m super stressed?


Medical Professionals

Physical Health - Medical professionals that help to support your physical health might include Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Naturopaths, and Eastern Medicine Practitioners (Traditional Chinese Medicine or Ayurveda).  These people are professionally trained to help your body keep working at its best! 

Action steps: 

    1. What is your plan if you get sick or injured? 
    2. Make an appointment for your annual exam.
    3. Is something bothering you now?  Take action! Don’t let it slow you down!

Mental + Emotional Health - Mental health is incredibly important for being able to function at your best.  Medical professionals that can help us understand our emotions and thoughts might include Therapists and Psychologists. 

Action steps: 

      1. Consider this:  Would understanding more about your thoughts and emotions help to up your game as an entrepreneur?
      2. Consider this: As an entrepreneur, would it be supportive to have someone whose only job is to focus on YOU, especially if you are in the service industry?


Health + Wellness Services - There are so many people who offer services that might be just the thing you are looking for!  Ask for help! Be supported!  These services might include massage therapists or chiropractors, Eastern Medicine (Ayurveda or Traditional Chinese Medicine), a yoga instructor or personal trainer, or a health coach.  They might even include someone like me - who offers you free support and knowledge designed to support your health.

Action step:

1. As I listed some of these health services, one of them probably stood out to you - for this action step, I challenge you to pick one of these things that you know would be supportive for you and commit to getting it on your schedule.  What would support your health and wellness? What would support you being able to show up as your best self?


You!  Yes, you are the MVP of your Health Support Squad.  You are the most important part of it. You get to decide when you will ask for help.  You get to decide the healthy choices you make that best support you. 


Next steps:

So, how can you show up as your best self as much as possible?  And how can you make sure that this happens?  


Here are some steps to create your team:

  1. Who is already a member of your team?  How can I make sure that I’m using them?  And no, I don’t mean using them like taking advantage - I mean using like actually going to the doctor.  
  2. Who is missing from your team?  I’m guessing there’s something that you’ve been meaning to do or follow up on with regards to your health and wellness, but you just haven’t gotten around to it.  
  3. What are you going to do to make sure you use your team?  Maybe it’s making sure to schedule appointments with your doctor, therapist, and massage therapist.  Is it asking friends for help when you need it? Is it scheduling time with friends and making it a priority because you know it makes you happy?


What will you do?  How will you make sure you have the best team to support you?
